Care Guide for Silk or Lace Closures and Frontals cont...
1. Reinforce your closure/frontal.
We recommend that you seal the underside of your closure to prevent shedding. We recommend Patricia Nimocks' clear acrylic sealer (matte). This spray on sealer can be purchased from most craft stores. We suggest that you seal the closure prior to your first installation, and before each subsequent installation. Please read the sealer product label and directions prior to usage. Apply at least three thin coats to the underside of the hair piece. Allow the closure to dry at least 15 minutes between coats. Heavy coats are not recommended. Allow the sealer to dry completely before installing the hair piece.
2. Never use a brush on the closure/frontal hair. Always use a gentle touch when styling.
Deep condition to keep your hair in tip top shape, use a deep conditioner or hot oil treatment in your hair twice a month. Depending on the hair's need, this is very important if you have chemically treated the hair or use irons.
3. Comb gently, especially following a shampoo or whenever the closure is wet.
Halley's curls 100% Malaysian Remy hair can be styled as you would your own hair. You can blow dry, curl with curling iron, straighten with a flat iron, dye with a hair dye.
4. Gently shampoo at least once a week, increase frequency if you have increased scalp perspiration.
5. Carefully rinse all shampoo and conditioner from closure.
6. Do not apply oils to the closure base.
7. Do not scratch the closure in an attempt to calm a scalp itch.
8. Do not dig into the closure with any styling tool to form a part.
9. We strongly advise against the use of sea breeze or other high SD alcohol products, for it breaks down the adhesives within the closure, leading to thinning and/ or closure hair loss. Your new closure may look like your scalp...but it is not...it is a fine, handcrafted illusion of a scalp. Treated gently, it can last multiple installs
How to bleach knots on swiss lace
The desired results are light colored knots that are less visible, without excessive lightening of the hair strand. You will need a professional hair bleaching kit, a soft makeup brush, and shampoo and conditioner. Mix the bleach according to package directions. Once mixed, dip the tip of the brush into the mixture and gently tap the product onto the knots. Do not apply a thick coat of bleach, or allow the bleach to run through the lace onto the hair strands. Upon completion of the bleach application, you must watch for the necessary color change. Once the knots have reached the desired shade, rinse the bleach off with a strong stream of water. Allow the water to flow away from the hair strands. Shampoo and condition the hair, and then allow the item to air dry. Seal or reinforce the closure after bleaching the knots and once the item is completely dry.
Would you like to alter the color of the silk on your new closure? How to use fabric dye to color a silk closure
Use tan colored rit liquid dye for this procedure for its easy, pre-dissolved convenience. Cover a flat work area with a piece of plastic sheeting such as a trash can liner. Lay the closure flat on the work surface, with the scalp facing upwards. Wearing rubber gloves, pour 2 tablespoons rit liquid dye into 1/2 cup of very hot tap water. Dip a small corner of a piece of clean cloth into the hot dye, gently squeezing out the excess. Rub the closure where you wish to apply the dye. You can also use a cotton swab to apply the dye. Do not submerge your closure in the hot water, for extreme temperatures can damage the integrity of the hair piece. Allow the dye to set at room temperature for 20 minutes. Shampoo the closure using cold water and a mild shampoo. Allow the closure to completely air dry. Seal the closure as per our instructions.
How to use a tea bags to alter the color of a silk closure
5 tea bags - use Lipton black tea. (Do not use green, herbal or white teas.)
1 cup of hot water
plastic or glass bowl
Place the tea bags into the cup of hot water. Allow the tea to brew for 20 minutes. Remove the tea bags and discard. Allow the tea solution to reach room temperature. Place the silk portion of the closure inside of the bowl. Pour the brewed tea into the bowl, for extreme temperatures can damage the integrity of the hair piece. Allow the closure to soak for five (5) minutes. When time is up, remove the closure and squeeze out the tea. The silk will appear darker while wet. Dry the fabric with a blow dryer on its coolest setting.
If you like the color: allow the closure to dry for a minimum of 24 hours. The extended drying time is to allow the stain to set-in. Rinse the hair with cold water to remove any tea residue. Allow the closure to air dry. Seal as per our instructions. You are now ready to install your perfectly tinted silk closure.
If the color is too light: repeat the tinting process. If the color is still too light after tinting twice, add one teaspoon of instant coffee to the hot tea mixture. Coffee produces a deeper colored stain with reddish tones.
If the color is too dark: allow the closure to soak in a bowl of warm water to which a small amount of shampoo has been added. This soaking method should lighten the shade.
